Troops of the Nigerian Army, led by the Commander of 12 Brigade, Lokoja, Brigadier General Karim Sidi, have stormed a deep forest near Iluke in the Bunu area of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State to exhume the body of suspected bandit kingpin Ibrahim Battijo for autopsy.
The operation, conducted on Monday, June 16, 2026, follows the neutralisation of Battijo during a failed mass abduction attempt on WAEC students in Iluke on June 10, 2026.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the development, said the exhumation was carried out to allow for proper forensic examination and to confirm circumstances surrounding the bandit’s death after the encounter with troops.
“A team led by the Commander, 12 Brigade Lokoja, Brigadier General Karim Sidi stormed the deep forest near Iluke, Bunu in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State to exhume the body of notorious bandit kingpin, Ibrahim Battijo, for an autopsy,” Makama wrote.
Battijo was neutralised while attempting to kidnap students sitting for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams in the area.The development comes amid ongoing military efforts to tackle banditry and kidnapping in parts of northern Nigeria. A video of the exhumation operation has been circulating online.
