The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the unauthorized entry of Cameroonian soldiers into Danare Community, Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, on June 9, 2026, has been brought under control.
In a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Olalekan, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 82 Division, troops at the Forward Operating Base in Danare responded swiftly after receiving reports of foreign military presence.
The Army said it immediately contacted Cameroonian authorities, leading to the withdrawal of their personnel in line with established border protocols.
“Consequently, the situation was swiftly contained without any further escalation,” the statement noted.Preliminary findings suggest the incident stemmed from a dispute over farmland levies between Nigeria’s Danare Community and Cameroon’s Dadi Community.
To strengthen cooperation and prevent future occurrences, the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division directed the Commander of the 13 Brigade to engage with his Cameroonian counterpart.
The initiative aims to improve border coordination and clarify operational procedures.
The Army reassured residents that Nigeria’s territorial integrity remains protected, emphasizing that troops are alert and monitoring border activities.
“Residents of Danare and surrounding areas are assured that the situation is stable and entirely under control. Troops remain alert and continue to oversee border activities,” the statement concluded.
The public was urged to remain calm, continue lawful activities, and avoid spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary tension.
