UK Defence Deputy Chief Visits Maiduguri to Strengthen Military Ties

The United Kingdom’s Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff, Lt Gen Sir Charlie Collins KBE DSO, has arrived in Maiduguri for a high-level visit focused on bolstering bilateral defence cooperation with the Nigerian military.

The British Defence Staff West Africa announced the visit on Tuesday via its official X account, highlighting the UK’s continued support for Nigeria-led efforts to enhance security and promote regional stability in West Africa.

“In Maiduguri with @HQNigerianArmy colleagues, seeing UK-Nigeria defence cooperation first-hand and supporting Nigeria-led efforts to strengthen security and regional stability,” the post stated.

The visit includes a formal guards of honour ceremony and engagements with Nigerian Army officers, featuring ceremonial handshakes and plaque exchanges. It underscores the enduring partnership between the two nations in tackling terrorism, insurgency, and other security challenges in northern Nigeria.

This engagement aligns with Nigeria’s push for stronger transnational cooperation against banditry and violent extremism in the region.
