UAE Reaffirms Long-Term Commitment to Nigeria’s Investments, Trade Growth

The United Arab Emirates has reaffirmed its strong and enduring economic partnership with Nigeria, emphasising sustained investments, rising trade volumes, and opportunities in key sectors such as infrastructure, logistics, energy, technology, and innovation.

In an interview with The PUNCH, UAE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saeed Bin Mubarak Al Hajeri, described Nigeria as an increasingly important partner in the UAE’s broader engagement across Africa.

He stressed that the relationship is driven by long-term strategic priorities rather than short-term global challenges.

“The UAE–Nigeria partnership is defined by resilience and a shared vision for growth. We see significant opportunities to deepen cooperation, particularly in infrastructure, logistics, energy, and other sectors that drive long-term economic development,” Al Hajeri said.

The minister highlighted the significant expansion of non-oil trade between the two countries over the past five years, attributing the growth to the UAE’s competitive business environment and proactive investment strategy.

He noted that investments in infrastructure and supply-chain resilience have helped maintain stable trade flows.

Beyond trade, the UAE plans to broaden its engagement with Nigeria through greater focus on investment, innovation, and economic transformation.

This includes participation in the UAE’s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) programme, which covers several African economies, and the $1 billion “AI for Development in Africa” initiative aimed at strengthening digital ecosystems and sustainable growth across the continent.

Al Hajeri added that the UAE’s partnerships across more than 50 African countries span critical areas such as renewable energy, food security, education, digital transformation, and healthcare, all built on mutual trust and a shared vision for prosperity.

He concluded by reaffirming the UAE’s position as a reliable long-term partner to Nigeria and Africa, stating: “We are not simply extending a hand in partnership – we are building bridges to a shared future for generations to come.”

This renewed commitment comes as both nations continue to strengthen bilateral ties in trade, investment, and technology.
