Adeyinka Alaseyori, the gospel singer, has appealed to Nigerians to prioritise prayer rather than direct anger at President Bola Tinubu regarding the nation’s ongoing security challenges.
In a recent video message, Alaseyori said prayer remains a
powerful tool and pushed back against the growing belief that it is no longer
effective for solving the country’s problems.
“Prayers are working. Don’t let anybody tell you prayers are
not working,” she said.
Alaseyori argued that leaders at every level, including the
president and security forces, are in need of collective prayers. She urged
Nigerians to set aside political biases and turn to divine help.
“From the president to the last person in this country, we
need to pray. Every parastatal, every sector, we all need prayers,” she added.
The singer also cautioned against rushing to judge the
president, vice president, or other officials as being inactive on security
matters. She suggested that spiritual factors may be at play.
“You can’t say the president or vice president is not
working. The security personnel might have gone to rescue them and a charm
could have covered their face so they would not see anything. That is the place
of prayer,” she said.
Her comments come amid heightened criticism from other
public figures.
Recently, British-Nigerian artiste Skepta called out Tinubu,
expressing deep concern over the suffering of Nigerians and asking how much
more the country must endure.
The singer also appealed for global support to what he
called a “deep level of injustice” in Nigeria, stating plainly, “the country
needs help.”
He joins a growing list of Nigerian celebrities who have
urged the government to act more decisively and proactively in response to the
nation’s crises.
46 students and staff from Oriire LGA in Oyo were abducted
in May. One of the teachers was beheaded.
