President Tinubu has commended troops for rescuing the wife of Rabe Abubakar, a retired army major-general who died while in bandits’ captivity.
A statement on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, his special adviser
on information and strategy, said the operation “demonstrates a high standard
of professionalism and the needed determination to confront forces of evil”.
“The safe return of Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar is a source
of relief to her family and to all Nigerians,” Tinubu said.
“I commend the intelligence coordination and bravery of the
officers and men who executed the rescue operation. We owe a debt of gratitude
to our troops who risk their lives daily to keep us safe.”
Tinubu also praised the armed forces and other security
agencies for a separate operation in Kogi state that resulted in the killing of
Ibrahim Bastuji, a notorious bandit kingpin.
He described the development as a “major setback” for
criminal networks operating in Kogi state and neighbouring areas.
Tinubu said Bastuji’s years of violent activities, including
kidnapping and attacks on civilians, had inflicted severe hardship on
residents.
He said that his death would help restore confidence and
bring relief to affected communities.
“I congratulate our gallant troops on this decisive
milestone. Nigeria will not surrender any part of its territory to criminals,”
Tinubu said.
“Those who choose the path of violence against innocent
citizens will find no hiding place. This success reflects the renewed
determination of our security forces to secure every inch of our land.”
The president assured Nigerians of the government’s
continued commitment to providing the armed forces with the resources, training
and support needed to end banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Tinubu also urged Nigerians to continue supporting security
agencies by providing timely and useful information.
