The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Friday commissioned the new permanent headquarters of the Taraba State Police Command, providing the state with its first purpose-built police command facility since its creation in 1991.
Represented by Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Moorkwap Dongshal Sebastine, the IGP said the modern facility would enhance operational efficiency, improve officers’ welfare, and strengthen police-community relations.
“The completion of this magnificent building is long overdue, considering that Taraba State was created in 1991. However, it is better late than never,” Disu stated.
He described the project as a testament to the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to creating a conducive working environment for its personnel.
The IGP commended the Federal Government, Taraba State Government, Nigeria Police Trust Fund, and other stakeholders for their support in delivering the project.
He emphasized that the welfare of police officers remains a top priority, promising continued improvements in office facilities, accommodation, healthcare, and training.
Disu also called for greater collaboration between the police and the public, urging traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, civil society, and citizens to provide timely intelligence to support effective policing.
In his remarks, Governor Agbu Kefas, represented by the Commandant of Taraba Marshals, retired Commissioner of Police Abeh Cyril, reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to security infrastructure.
He noted that the headquarters would boost the operational capacity of law enforcement and contribute to peace and development.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, highlighted the project as part of the Federal Government’s commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen security and improve police welfare.
The commissioning marks a significant milestone for law enforcement in Taraba State after more than three decades without a dedicated permanent headquarters.
