Vice President Kashim Shettima has hailed the donation of specialised communication equipment to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) by satellite internet provider Starlink, describing it as a major boost to Nigeria’s disaster response capacity.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Shettima welcomed a delegation led by NEMA’s Director-General, Hajiya Zubaida Umar, alongside technical teams from SpaceX and NEMA.
He emphasised that the partnership would significantly improve NEMA’s response time and coordination during emergencies.
“Effective communication is central to disaster interventions. Partnerships with technology providers like Starlink will be especially vital during flood disasters and other emergencies,” Shettima noted.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would strengthen Nigeria’s nationwide emergency response, ensuring faster and more effective interventions in times of crisis.
