Senator Seriake Dickson, national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), says efforts are underway to harmonize the interests of the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient movements within the party’s structure.
Dickson made the disclosure after hosting former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and other NDC leaders at his residence on Tuesday.
The meeting followed recent tensions sparked by an NDC directive warning affiliated groups not to operate independently of the party.Acknowledging the disagreements, Dickson described them as natural for a fast-growing opposition platform.
“The NDC is fast emerging as the leading opposition party in Nigeria, and as with every growing political movement, disagreements and clashes of interest are inevitable. We are accustomed to managing such challenges through dialogue, consultation and reconciliation,” he said.
He dismissed claims of candidate imposition, stressing that the party has consistently allowed democratic processes to determine candidates across states.
Dickson emphasized that both the Kwankwasiyya and Obidient movements are vital support bases and assured that their members would be integrated into NDC structures nationwide.
He noted that he had already received a delegation from the Obidient Movement and was awaiting a list of coordinators from Kwankwasiyya to formalize their inclusion.
The NDC leader expressed confidence that ongoing consultations would strengthen unity and advance the party’s electoral objectives ahead of 2027.
