Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that Senator Sandy Onor is the sole presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 election.
Wike made the assertion on Monday during his monthly media chat in Abuja, insisting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognises only Wadata Plaza as the authentic PDP national secretariat.
The declaration comes amid deepening crisis in the PDP, as two rival factions over the weekend produced different presidential candidates. While the Wike-led group endorsed former Cross River Senator Sandy Onor as its consensus candidate, a faction led by Tanimu Turaki adopted former President Goodluck Jonathan in absentia.
Jonathan is yet to comment publicly on his reported endorsement.Addressing the development, Wike said: “Do you pick someone who has not told you he wants to run for an election? There is no faction in the PDP. The only presidential candidate of the PDP is Sandy Onor.”
He added: “INEC must know the secretariat of all political parties. The INEC-recognised PDP secretariat is Wadata Plaza and not anyone’s private office or bedroom.”
