Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Borisenko Evgenievich, on Thursday received Nigeria’s newly appointed Ambassador to Russia, Joseph Iji, in the Russian capital.
Ambassador Iji presented copies of his credentials during the meeting, according to a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Daria Senyushina, Communications Officer at the Russian Embassy in Nigeria.
Both sides used the occasion to discuss ways of strengthening the longstanding friendly relations between the two nations.
Discussions focused on intensifying political dialogue and expanding cooperation in trade, economic, scientific, technical, humanitarian, and other spheres.
Diplomatic ties between Nigeria and Russia (and formerly the Soviet Union) span over six decades.
The countries maintain active embassies and a consulate, with ongoing collaboration in areas such as trade, military cooperation, education, and energy.
The development signals continued commitment to deepening the partnership between Abuja and Moscow.
