Blessing Fubara, the governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers State, has dismissed claims that his political ambition is tied to a godfather or his brother, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Friday night, Fubara insisted that his only backing is divine.
“I don’t have a godfather but I have God the father,” he said, stressing that his vision is independent and not a continuation of his brother’s political project.
He emphasized that while he and Governor Fubara share family ties, their political ideologies differ.
“My brother, Nigerians, and indeed the wider world saw what happened between him and his party. We have different political ideologies and individual perspectives,” he noted.
Fubara added that Rivers State is facing a critical moment, with competing narratives shaping public opinion.
He maintained that his campaign is focused on rescuing the state and delivering genuine governance.
His declaration comes amid ongoing political turmoil in Rivers, marked by the feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The crisis has triggered impeachment attempts, parallel legislative factions, and legal battles.
Governor Fubara recently withdrew from the APC governorship primaries, while Blessing Fubara formally entered the 2027 race under the NDC shortly after.
