Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has granted clemency to 97 inmates of the Kaduna Medium Security Custodial Centre as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebrations.
Announcing the decision on his verified Facebook page Friday night, the governor described the gesture as a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to justice, equity, and compassion, particularly for vulnerable citizens whose socio-economic challenges may have contributed to their incarceration.
“We firmly believe that every individual merits a second chance and the opportunity to rebuild their lives,” Sani wrote.
He urged the beneficiaries to embrace the opportunity responsibly, cultivate good character, and acquire skills that would enable them to positively impact society.
The governor also expressed appreciation to the Judiciary, the Nigerian Correctional Service, the Legal Aid Council, security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, and the Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy for their roles in making the initiative possible.
“Together, we are forging a Kaduna State where justice is harmonized with mercy, where compassion enriches accountability, and where every citizen has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our collective growth and development,” he added.
