Jeremiah Umaru, the lawmaker representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing disillusionment with the party’s recent primary elections.
Umaru, popularly known as Jakadan Wamba, announced his departure in a letter dated May 28, 2026, addressed to the APC Chairman of Gitta Ward in Wamba Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
In the letter, he expressed disappointment over what he described as the erosion of fairness, transparency, justice, and internal democracy within the party.
He noted that the conduct of the primaries had undermined his confidence in the APC’s commitment to credible and inclusive democratic practices.
“As a loyal member who invested time, effort, and resources in building the APC, it is painful to witness the increasing prevalence of imposition, manipulation, and disregard for the collective wishes of members. I can no longer, in good conscience, remain part of a system that fails to uphold fairness and credibility,” Umaru stated.
Despite his resignation, the lawmaker expressed gratitude to party members and leaders he had worked with, acknowledging the opportunities and experiences gained during his time in the APC.
His exit adds to the wave of defections and political realignments in Nasarawa State following the conclusion of party primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
