Anambra Govt Arraigns Eight Pastors Over Homeland Security Law Violations

The Anambra State Government has arraigned eight pastors accused of breaching the state’s 2025 Homeland Security Law.

The clerics, described by officials as “fake pastors,” were arrested in Onitsha, Awka, and other parts of the state before being brought before the judiciary complex in Awka.

According to Mr. Ejimofor Opara, Media Adviser to the Governor, the pastors allegedly engaged in practices deemed harmful to public order, particularly those linked to wealth creation schemes.

The Homeland Security Law, enacted in February 2025, prohibits religious activities considered exploitative or detrimental to society.

This latest crackdown follows similar actions last year against native doctors promoting get-rich-quick rituals, some of whom have already been convicted and jailed.

The pastors arraigned include Peter Chukwu, Chinedu Egwuonwu, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, Ebele Nnachukwu, Ekeleme Chris Ugochukwu, Ndubisi Nnachukwu, Miracle Iruoma, and Chukwukadibia Ogwuama.

The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, SAN, is leading the prosecution.

Authorities emphasized that the government remains committed to enforcing laws designed to protect citizens from exploitative religious practices and to uphold public safety.
