Police Vow Safe Rescue of Abducted Oyo Pupils, Reject Ransom Negotiations

The Nigeria Police Force has assured the public that abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State will be rescued safely, while firmly ruling out any engagement in ransom talks.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Adegoke Fayoade, who oversees Information and Communication Technology, gave the assurance during a working visit to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja on Monday.

He emphasized that coordinated efforts across security agencies were underway to secure the victims’ release “within the shortest possible time.”

Responding to reports of ransom demands, Fayoade stressed: “We don’t know anything about ransom because we don’t talk about ransom. All efforts are directed towards getting the abductees freed safely.”

The DIG explained that his visit was aimed at strengthening supervision, reviewing operational strategies, and engaging personnel on improved approaches to evolving security threats.

He noted challenges such as manpower shortages, welfare concerns, and logistics, but highlighted ongoing recruitment and welfare initiatives to address them.

Fayoade also underscored the police’s increasing reliance on technology, including centralized data systems and artificial intelligence, to enhance intelligence gathering and investigations.

He commended officers for their professionalism and urged continued respect for human rights, while calling for stronger collaboration between the police, stakeholders, and the public to ensure national security.
