Oyebanji Celebrates Ekiti Re-Election, Calls for Opposition Unity

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ekiti following his landslide victory in the June 20 governorship election.

Oyebanji, who won across all 177 wards and 16 local government areas, described the outcome as a “historic re-election” and praised citizens for conducting themselves peacefully throughout the three-month electioneering period.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, the governor extended an olive branch to opposition candidates, Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) urging them to collaborate in building a more prosperous Ekiti.

He commended traditional rulers, political leaders, religious bodies, and security agencies for their roles in maintaining peace, while also acknowledging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he termed a marked improvement in electoral conduct under the Electoral Act signed by President Bola Tinubu.

Oyebanji pledged to work “harder and more efficiently” in his second term to deliver greater dividends of democracy, noting that the trust reposed in him by Ekiti people was “humbling and not taken for granted.”
