The Yobe State Police Command has shut down an illegal firearms manufacturing workshop in Potiskum Local Government Area, arresting seven suspected gunsmiths.
Acting on credible intelligence, a joint team of operatives from the Potiskum Area Command and Divisional Headquarters raided a blacksmith shop at Tasha Adua along Danchuwa Road on Monday.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the raid on Tuesday, detailing a significant haul of recovered weapons and machinery, including:
Two fabricated pistols
24 muzzle pipes and 9 gun butts
Four unserviceable Dane guns
A filing machine and a cutlass
The suspects are currently in custody as investigators work to track down their buyers and potential collaborators.
In response to the bust, the Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has ordered an expanded, state-wide crackdown to locate and dismantle similar illegal armories.
