Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated N10 million to support healthcare services at Ehime General Hospital in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
Obi made the donation during a visit to the hospital on Monday, where he was received by the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri, Most Rev. David Onuoha, along with members of the clergy and hospital management.
The Archbishop commended Obi for his consistent support for critical sectors, especially health and education, describing his interventions as impactful and selfless.
Ehime General Hospital, which has been handed over to the Catholic Diocese for management, is currently undergoing renovation.
Plans are also underway to establish a nursing school within the hospital complex to boost healthcare training and service delivery in the area.
Speaking during the visit, Obi emphasised the need for greater investment in healthcare and education, describing both as essential pillars for national development.
He noted that a healthy and educated population is key to economic growth and social progress.
The former Anambra State governor called on governments at all levels to provide more support for healthcare initiatives.
He highlighted the significant role faith-based organisations continue to play in complementing government efforts in delivering essential services.
Obi advocated for stronger collaboration among government, private individuals, and religious organisations to address challenges in the health sector and improve access to quality medical care.
He stressed the importance of investing in healthcare infrastructure and personnel development for sustainable improvements.
The donation is expected to aid the ongoing renovation of the hospital and enhance its capacity to serve surrounding communities effectively.
The visit underscored the value of public-private and faith-based partnerships in strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Imo State.
