The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has dismissed the recently concluded local government elections as a “mockery of democracy,” accusing the process of lacking transparency and fairness for opposition parties.
In a statement issued Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Abdulkadir-Ahmad Dukku, the PDP said its boycott of the poll was informed by widespread irregularities.
The Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC) had declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of all 11 chairmanship seats and 114 councillorship positions.
“The so-called election conducted by GOSIEC failed to mobilise opposition parties to participate. Ballot boxes were not taken to polling units, making it a repetition of the kangaroo 2024 local government elections under Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s APC government,” the statement read.
Beyond the election, the PDP criticised the Yahaya administration for recent demolitions across the state, alleging that the exercise violated democratic principles and created tension with affected residents.
The party also condemned comments allegedly made by the governor in a viral video, describing them as “vulgar utterances” that undermine citizens’ dignity.
The PDP further faulted the expulsion of Gombawa Motors from the Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo Mega Motor Park, claiming the move was politically motivated.
It argued that transport operators, like all citizens, have the right to express political views without intimidation.
Calling on the state government to uphold democratic values, the PDP urged respect for constitutional rights and fairness in governance.
