The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has credited effective air surveillance and intelligence-led operations for the successful rescue of students and teachers abducted from Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The abduction occurred on Monday when suspected terrorists attacked the school during ongoing Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) sessions conducted by the National Examination Council (NECO).
In a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja, NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame said swift deployment of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets, combined with timely air support, disrupted the attackers’ movements and enabled ground troops to engage them.
Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, praised the joint operation, noting that it underscored the importance of intelligence-driven military coordination in counter-terrorism efforts.
He commended personnel of Operation HADIN KAI and the Civilian Joint Task Force, paying tribute to a soldier and a CJTF member who lost their lives during the mission.
Accounts from rescued victims confirmed that the arrival of military aircraft forced the terrorists to scatter, creating an opportunity for escape as troops advanced.
Vice Principal Paul Namaske said the intervention was decisive in saving lives. The military continues to intensify operations against terrorist groups in the North-East, aiming to restore security and protect civilians from further attacks.
