The Gombe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has reaffirmed that former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Ali Isa Pantami, remains a member of the party despite claims of his resignation.
Pantami, who recently emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State, was said to have defected after the APC primary produced Jamilu Gwamna.
At a press briefing in Gombe, APC Publicity Secretary Moses Kyari stressed that the party’s Ward Executive Committee never received or deliberated on any resignation letter from Pantami.
He noted that 25 out of 27 ward executives dismissed the resignation claim as “fabricated and unauthorized.”
Ward Chairman Alhaji Bala Galda disclosed that the alleged letter, dated May 19 but delivered on May 23 by Abba Pantami, was never circulated among committee members.
Kyari argued that under APC rules, INEC guidelines, and the Electoral Act, Pantami remains an APC member until due process is completed.
Kyari also rejected Pantami’s claim in a TV interview that his defection had President Bola Tinubu’s blessing, insisting that the President remains loyal to the APC.
He highlighted Governor Muhammadu Yahaya’s achievements in governance, infrastructure, and political stability, which he said strengthened APC’s dominance in Gombe.
The party urged the APC national leadership and the Presidency to publicly clarify the matter to prevent misinformation.
Kyari concluded by reaffirming the APC’s commitment to transparency and unity.
