The Oyo state government has lifted the curfew imposed on 10 LGAs following the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire LGA.
On Tuesday, the state government declared a 16-hour curfew
in 10 local government areas bordering the old Oyo National Park.
A memo by Musibau Babatunde, secretary to the state
government, said the curfew would take effect from Wednesday.
The curfew, which ran from 4 pm to 8 am, was expected to
last for two days in the first instance.
The affected LGAs were Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West,
Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba.
In a statement on Saturday, Dotun Oyelade, commissioner for
information, said that residents can now resume their normal activities.
Oyelade expressed the government’s appreciation for the
cooperation and understanding of the people in the affected areas.
Oyelade said the government is closely monitoring the
security situation.
He, however, reassured residents that efforts are ongoing to
bring the kidnapping episode across the state to an end.
