Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has claimed that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori abandoned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC because he feared Omo-Agege’s political strength.
In an interview with Arise TV, Omo-Agege argued that his influence in Delta politics forced Oborevwori’s move, insisting the governor “chickened out” rather than face him head-on.
He pointed to the 2023 elections, where the APC won two out of three Senate seats in Delta State, including Delta Central Senatorial District.
Omo-Agege highlighted that his party’s candidate, Ede Dafinone, defeated Oborevwori’s preferred candidate by a margin of 15,000 votes.
He further stated that his ongoing thank-you tour across the state has triggered mass defections from the PDP to the APC, which he attributed to waning confidence in Oborevwori’s leadership.
Omo-Agege maintained that he did not concede defeat in the 2023 governorship race, insisting he had won, and argued that Oborevwori’s defection was proof he considered him a serious threat.
