National Publicity Secretary of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Prof. Tukur Mohammed-Baba, has expressed doubts that Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi will replicate his 2023 election performance in 2027.
Speaking on Arise News, Mohammed-Baba noted that Obi’s frequent movement across political parties and shifting alliances have weakened his support base.
“Yes, Peter Obi made inroads in 2023, and he performed wonderfully. But what has happened since then has vitiated his support, and I will be very surprised if he performs as much as he did in 2023,” he said.
He criticized the dominance of personal ambition in Nigerian politics, stressing that politics should serve the people rather than individual interests.
“There is everything wrong with personal ambitions, because politics is for service to the people. So long as you are not there to serve, then your ambition remains personal,” he added.
Mohammed-Baba also questioned whether NDC vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso could deliver Kano State again, as he did in 2023, citing recent controversies and remarks that may have eroded his influence.
According to him, Nigeria’s political parties remain overly centered on individuals rather than collective platforms, a trend he believes undermines genuine service to the electorate.
