The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed circulating fears of an impending bandit attack on schools, stating there is no credible intelligence to support such threats.
In a statement on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the police are aware of a threat notice allegedly pasted in a school claiming bandits planned to attack and abduct schoolchildren.
The Command urged parents, guardians, school authorities, and residents to remain calm, emphasising that there is currently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent attack in the state.
Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has directed an immediate assessment of the situation and ordered enhanced security deployment around schools and other strategic locations across Lagos.
“While every security concern is treated seriously, members of the public are advised to remain calm and avoid panic,” the statement said.
Police confirmed that operatives, working with other security agencies, have been deployed to safeguard schools, critical infrastructure, and communities.
The Command reassured residents that Lagos remains secure and that proactive measures are in place to prevent any breach of public safety.
It warned that security agencies will not tolerate any attempt by criminal elements to cause fear or destabilise public peace.
“Anyone found engaging in acts capable of causing fear or insecurity will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement added.
Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of all residents in the state.
