The Kano State Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Mas’ud Doguwa, has declared that the party is willing to form alliances with other political parties for the 2027 general elections at both state and national levels.
In an exclusive interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday, Doguwa stated that the NNPP is ready to collaborate with like-minded parties to pursue its electoral objectives. He emphasised that the party is prioritising the strengthening of its structures and broadening its political influence in preparation for the next election cycle.
“We are open to alignment with other political parties ahead of the 2027 elections, both at the state and national levels. Politics is about interest, consultation and building consensus, so we are ready to work with others where necessary,” Doguwa said.
He added that the NNPP would not dismiss any strategic collaboration that could help advance the party’s goals in Kano State and across Nigeria.
However, Doguwa firmly rejected a rival faction within the party led by one Abia, describing it as lacking legitimacy. He accused the group of working in the interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to sow confusion and weaken the NNPP’s structure in Kano.
“That faction is not part of us. As far as we are concerned, they do not represent the NNPP. We know what they are doing and who they are working for... He is working for the APC. That is the truth. We know those behind the moves and we are not distracted by them,” he asserted.
Despite recent defections and political realignments in the state, Doguwa expressed confidence in the NNPP’s strength and relevance in Kano. He said the party would continue engaging stakeholders and supporters to reposition itself for stronger performance in future elections.
This position aligns with broader signals from the NNPP nationally, where the party has indicated openness to alliances rather than going it alone in all contests.
