National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has sharply criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of poor planning and failure to address Nigeria’s most pressing challenges.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Baba-Ahmed argued that the government embarked on major reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, without adequate preparation or proper analysis.
“You don’t embark on policies without SWOT analysis. The very day President Tinubu was sworn in, by his own admission, the issue about removing subsidy was not even in his speech,” he said.
He maintained that Nigerians were not sufficiently prepared for the consequences of subsidy removal, describing the move as a policy of “magnitude” that should have undergone thorough evaluation.
Baba-Ahmed dismissed claims that opposition figures were plotting unconstitutional means to oust the government, stressing that change would only come through the ballot box.
He expressed disappointment in Tinubu’s performance, noting that despite entering office with strong political credentials, the President had failed to tackle insecurity, rising living costs, and corruption.
“Nigeria is making so much money, and yet poverty levels are rising, insecurity is rising and corruption is rising,” he alleged.
The PRP chairman concluded that the administration had fallen short of public expectations, describing it as a missed opportunity to resolve Nigeria’s longstanding problems.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has defended its economic reforms, insisting that measures such as subsidy removal and exchange rate unification are necessary to stabilise the economy and lay the foundation for long-term growth.
