The Nigerian Army has appointed Lieutenant Colonel Yahaya Mohammed Abdullahi as the new commander of the Nigerian contingent serving under the Economic Community of West African States Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG).
The appointment was formalised at a change of command ceremony on Monday, where outgoing commander Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Agada handed over leadership of Nigerian Contingent 10 to Lt. Col. Abdullahi, who now heads Contingent 11.
The handover underscored Nigeria’s continued commitment to the ECOWAS mission aimed at promoting peace, security, and stability in The Gambia.In his remarks, Lt. Col. Agada congratulated his successor and expressed confidence in his ability to lead with professionalism and dedication.
He urged officers and soldiers to give the new commander their full support and cooperation.
The ceremony was attended by personnel of the Nigerian contingent.
Members of the outgoing Contingent 10 have since returned to Nigeria after completing their one-year peacekeeping tour.
