The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has imposed a N6 million sanction on Saudi Airlines over violations of consumer protection regulations.
In a post on X on Friday, Michael Achimugu, the director of
public affairs and consumer protection at the NCAA, said the penalty was
imposed after the airline failed to resolve several pending issues and comply
with the authority’s determinations despite being given additional time to do
so.
“The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has sanctioned Saudi
Airlines to the tune of six million naira for consumer protection-related
infractions,” the post reads.
“Having supported the airline to avert violence at the
Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport a couple of months back, and allowing the
grace of extended time to resolve several pending issues as well as
determinations by the CAA, this sanction is necessary to ensure compliance with
Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023.
“It also hopes that the airline will improve, exponentially,
its Nigeria operations. Paying passengers travelling to/fro Nigeria need to
feel protected and respected by the carrier.”
Achimugu said the NCAA would continue to support Saudi
Airlines, as well as other carriers, to operate at optimal capacity.
The NCAA had threatened to impose sanctions on airlines that
continue to violate consumer protection regulations.
On September 19, 2025, the authority disclosed that Royal
Air Maroc and Saudi Air have been cautioned over certain infractions and risk
heavy sanctions if they fail to comply with the authority’s determinations.
