The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has suspended the permit of a private aircraft and grounded it following an unauthorized departure from an incident site near Asaba.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, confirmed that the aircraft attempted to land at Asaba Airport around 7:43 a.m. but executed a missed approach, eventually landing on a concrete road under construction in Ogwashi-Uku, close to Asaba.
Four crew members were on board, but no injuries were reported. They were safely evacuated and transported to Asaba by road.
Keyamo revealed that the aircraft later departed the site at 11:02 GMT and returned to Lagos without securing regulatory clearance.
“Air Traffic Control was only notified after the aircraft had taken off. In essence, the aircraft did not have permission to take off again,” he stated.
The NCAA immediately grounded the aircraft upon arrival in Lagos and suspended its Permit for Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF).
The authority is now reviewing operational, maintenance, airworthiness, and flight records as part of its investigation.Security agencies have taken custody of the crew, who are assisting with inquiries.
The NCAA emphasized that the incident represents a serious breach of aviation regulations and security protocols.
Investigations are ongoing, with regulators working alongside the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency and the aircraft operator to determine the full circumstances surrounding both the landing and unauthorized departure.
