Lagos to Close Iddo Bridge Temporarily, Announces Traffic Diversion

The Lagos State Government has unveiled a traffic diversion plan to ease movement during the temporary closure of Iddo Bridge in the Ijora area of Apapa Local Government, as rehabilitation works continue on the facility.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, signed by Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the government explained that the Federal Ministry of Works will install heavy steel beams as part of the ongoing reconstruction of the bridge.

The operation will require full closure of the bridge at specific times to ensure safety. The closure is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“The entire section of Iddo Bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement during the periods stated above to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams,” the statement read.

Alternative Routes

From Oyingbo/Yaba to Ijora Olopa, Apapa, and Costain: Motorists should use Funsho Williams Avenue.

From Marina to Ijora Olopa, Apapa, and Costain: Drivers are advised to descend the ramp to access Iddo-Onigbe, connect Oyingbo, and continue via Murtala Muhammed Way.

From Ijora Olopa/Apapa towards Carter Bridge or Marina: Use Eko Bridge by connecting Apapa Road, then continue through Murtala Muhammed Way via Iddo-Onigbe and Carter Bridge.

The government urged commuters to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials during the disruption, stressing that the exercise is part of broader measures to support ongoing rehabilitation works by the Federal Ministry of Works.
