Samuel Apata, the lawmaker representing Somolu Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the controversy surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election, alleging that he was denied his return ticket despite winning convincingly.
Speaking in Lagos on Wednesday, Apata insisted that he secured 9,081 votes in the primary, far ahead of other contenders, but was overlooked in favor of a candidate who came third with 677 votes.
“I contested for the second-term ticket and won convincingly. It is unfortunate that someone who came a distant third was declared the candidate. President Tinubu is a man of justice, and I am confident he will ensure the right thing is done,” Apata said.
The lawmaker, who won his Assembly seat in 2023 after several unsuccessful attempts at local and state elections, highlighted his achievements in office, including road rehabilitation in Bariga and the construction and renovation of six schools.
He argued that his legislative experience had strengthened his capacity to deliver more dividends of representation if given another mandate.
Apata reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and expressed hope that the dispute would be resolved fairly, stressing that his appeal to Tinubu was rooted in his belief in party supremacy and due process.
