Eight Nigerian soldiers, including a lieutenant, were reportedly killed on Monday during an ambush in Kaduna State.
According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the attack occurred as troops were heading for a rescue mission following an earlier abduction in communities along the Kaduna River between Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas.
The Nigerian Army has been contacted for official comments on the incident.This latest assault underscores the rising wave of bandit attacks across the North-West and North-Central regions, despite ongoing military operations.
In March 2025, coordinated bandit raids on military bases in Kaduna and Niger states left several soldiers dead.
The army described that assault as a “three-pronged attack” targeting multiple bases simultaneously.
The Kaduna ambush adds to growing concerns about insecurity in the region, where armed groups continue to challenge state authority and endanger civilian communities.
