Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris has initiated plans to establish a new Police Mobile Force (PMF) base in Zuru as part of efforts to strengthen security and tackle banditry and other crimes in the southern part of the state.
During a brief ceremony on Friday, the governor handed over the allocated land for the project to the contractor.
The Emir of Zuru, His Royal Highness Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, performed the symbolic handover.
The land was received on behalf of the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police by Divisional Police Officer CSP Abubakar Ambursa.
The initiative forms part of the governor’s wider security intervention strategy.
It fulfills a promise made during his recent visit to Zuru and aligns with directives issued to security agencies to review and enhance their operational strategies amid emerging threats.
The Emir of Zuru commended Governor Idris for his commitment to protecting lives and property, noting the state government’s ongoing support through vehicles, logistics, and funding for security operations.
He described the new base as a vital addition that will support other agencies in addressing armed banditry across the seven local government areas in Kebbi South.
The monarch urged residents to back government efforts toward restoring peace and to pray for sustainable solutions to the region’s security challenges.
The PMF base is expected to boost rapid response capabilities, improve intelligence gathering, and increase security presence in vulnerable communities.
Parts of Kebbi South, especially areas bordering neighbouring states, have been affected by banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnapping in recent years.
The ceremony was attended by the Chairman of Zuru Local Government Area, Alhaji Muhammad Bala Isah, senior government officials, traditional rulers, and APC members.
