The Kebbi State Government has dismissed allegations by Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, representing Kebbi South, that he was denied the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for re-election due to his criticism of insecurity in the state.
In a statement issued by Governor Nasir Idris’s Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, the government described Maidoki’s remarks as misleading and an attempt to justify his failure to secure the party’s ticket.
Maidoki had alleged on Channels Television that his outspoken stance on insecurity in Kebbi South, particularly in the Zuru axis plagued by bandit attacks, cost him the APC ticket.
Responding, the government emphasized that tackling insecurity is a collective responsibility involving authorities, security agencies, traditional leaders, and residents.
It questioned Maidoki’s performance, noting that if his primary motivation for entering politics was to fight insecurity, then the electorate had the right to judge whether he delivered on that promise.
The statement further stressed that Governor Idris did not influence the APC primary outcome, insisting that party members and stakeholders determined the result.
“Political fortunes are shaped by performance, acceptance, and the confidence of the electorate not by the governor,” Idris said.
Highlighting progress made under the current administration, the government pointed to improved security in Zuru Emirate, which has enabled displaced residents to return to their homes and farms.
The Kebbi Government urged Senator Maidoki to accept the democratic process in good faith and avoid making claims that could mislead the public.
The controversy stems from the APC primary election ahead of the 2027 general polls, where Maidoki failed to secure a return ticket to the Senate.
