Iyabo Obasanjo Set to Return to PDP After APC Exit

Former Ogun Central senator, Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, is preparing to rejoin the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Multiple sources confirmed that she has already communicated her decision to PDP associates, with plans underway for a joint rally alongside former federal lawmaker Oladipupo Adebutu at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta on June 16.

Iyabo, who previously served as Ogun State health commissioner and chaired the Senate health committee during her tenure from 2007 to 2011, recently left the APC following her failed bid for the party’s governorship ticket.

She had declared interest in the 2027 race shortly after joining the APC in February 2026 but suspended her campaign when the party adopted Senator Solomon Adeola as its consensus candidate.

In her resignation letter, Iyabo accused APC leaders of persistent disrespect and breaching agreements, alleging that her supporters were barred from participating in the consensus process.

Her return to the PDP marks a significant political shift in Ogun State, where she is expected to play a central role in shaping the opposition’s strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.
