The family of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade, who was fatally shot during a violent incident in Ilobu, Osun State, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, calling for the arrest and prosecution of eight identified suspects.
The petition, dated June 23 and filed through the family’s solicitors, Law Corridor, followed the teenager’s death on June 21 near the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat.
Named suspects: The petition listed Kareem Saheed (“Tanfeani”), Ganiyu Habeeb Olaide, Alani Odedowo, Yekini Ismaila (“Ayan”), Afeez Abass (“SS”), Adejumo Habeeb (“Jama”), Afeez Yekini (“Feleru”), and Oyeladun Muideen (“Akilapa Okinin”) as alleged participants.
Witnesses claimed the attackers opened fire after spotting a man wearing a political party cap near a palm wine joint owned by the victim’s mother.
Ezekiel was struck by a stray bullet.Community evidence: The family and community members reportedly provided photographs and materials to aid police investigation.
Police response: The Osun State Police Command confirmed the teenager’s death and said another victim was injured.
The alleged ringleader and other suspects remain at large.The petition urged the IGP to launch a comprehensive and impartial investigation, warning that delays could jeopardise evidence and expose witnesses to intimidation.
The family described the killing as devastating and said it had “shaken the conscience of the people of Osun State,” insisting that justice must be served.
