Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has dismissed claims that he received money from African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential aspirant Mohammed Hayatu-Deen.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Lawal reacted to allegations from supporters of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who accused him of being financially influenced by Hayatu-Deen.Lawal denied the claims, stating:
“If I need money now, I’ll call President Tinubu, and I’ll get it before I get home. Hayatu-Deen has no money to give. Tell me who was there when he gave me the money. Maybe he’s yet to deliver it. I will go and collect it.”
He emphasized that his support for Hayatu-Deen was not about financial inducement but about competence.
“Hayatu-Deen was a man who was offering his service and competence. Hayatu-Deen is more competent than Atiku. They can’t even be in the same boat,” he added.
Lawal’s remarks come amid ongoing tensions within the ADC following its presidential primary, where Atiku emerged as the party’s candidate for the 2027 election.
