INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church leader Primate Elijah Ayodele has accused Nigerian governors of fueling insecurity by misusing security votes on parties and women instead of protecting citizens.
In a statement Tuesday by his media aide Osho Oluwatosin, Ayodele said governors now earn more under President Tinubu but citizens see no benefit.
“Our governors in Nigeria spend security votes on things that don’t make any sense. They spend it on party and young girls instead of securing the people that voted for them,” he said.
Ayodele questioned governors who claim they have no power over security: “How much will it cost them to buy vehicles, helicopter for police to fight banditry? ... Tinubu has satisfied these governors by giving them a lot of money so how can a governor say he doesn’t have power to control security? He is a bad governor.”
He called for scrutiny of security votes, asking “how many police stations have they built?” and said governors “are not adding value to the voters. They are only making money.”
The prophet also said Tinubu shouldn’t bear sole blame for insecurity. “Put the blame on the governor where kidnapping is happening in his state,” he added, noting he had warned about the situation earlier.
