Four people have been killed in an attack by gunmen on the convoy of Ben Nwankwo, chief of staff to Charles Soludo, Anambra state governor.
A statement by Law Mefor, Anambra state commissioner for
information and value reformation, said the incident occurred on Sunday between
8pm and 9pm at the Orumba North – Awka south borders in Anambra state while
Nwankwo was returning from an official assignment.
“This was more than an attack on one person. It was an
attack on the peace, security, and democratic order of our state, as well as
the Government and people of Anambra,” Mefor said.
“Sadly, four persons lost their lives and deserve justice.
“The Anambra State Government sends its deepest condolences
to the families of those who died and share in their grief.”
Mefor added that the police and other security agencies are
working to identify and bring everyone involved in the attack to justice.
He described the attack as an “isolated incident” after more
than one year of peace and security in the state, adding that it will not
affect the state’s determination to end all forms of crime.
