Nicholas Msheliza, Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Adamawa State Primary Electoral Committee, has accused former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, of attempting to rig the state’s presidential primary in favour of his preferred candidate.
Msheliza made the allegation in a statement on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.The counter-claim comes after Babachir Lawal resigned from the ADC and accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of rigging the presidential primary held last month, describing the process as flawed.
Reacting to Lawal’s claims, Msheliza said he could no longer remain silent in the face of what he described as “a pack of lies” being peddled by the ex-SGF.
He alleged that when Lawal got wind of the authentic results from Hong Local Government Area his home local government where Atiku Abubakar scored 11,991 votes, Lawal called and demanded that the results be reversed in favour of his candidate.
Msheliza said he refused the directive.“Curiously, one hour after that call, he dissolved and constituted a so-called new electoral committee for the Hong Local Government Area from his office in Abuja without recourse to me,” Msheliza claimed.
He further accused Lawal’s committee of illegally altering results in Hong, Madagali, Michika, and Mubi North Local Government Areas.
Msheliza challenged Lawal to publicly release the results sheets he claims to have as evidence, saying he is ready to present the original results from the Adamawa State Electoral Committee for comparison.
He warned that in a subsequent statement, he would release more evidence of alleged unethical interferences by Lawal during the primaries.
Msheliza advised Lawal to settle any personal scores with Atiku Abubakar through other means instead of discrediting a process he allegedly tried to manipulate.
