El-Rufai Arrives in Court for Trial Over Alleged Financial Crimes

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has arrived at the Federal High Court in Kaduna for the continuation of his trial on charges of alleged financial misconduct.

El-Rufai was escorted under tight security as he entered the court premises for proceedings brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The case involves multiple allegations, including abuse of office, financial impropriety, fraud during his tenure as governor, and wiretapping the National Security Adviser. El-Rufai has consistently denied all charges, while the ICPC maintains it has evidence to support them.

The trial was previously adjourned to today after two co-defendants failed to appear in court. Proceedings are expected to continue with all parties present.

On April 14, 2026, Justice Rilwan Aikawa granted El-Rufai bail in the sum of N200 million with stringent conditions, including two sureties, one a serving or retired civil servant at Grade Level 15 and the other a recognised traditional ruler. The court later rejected an application by his lawyers to vary the bail conditions.

The development is being closely monitored as the hearing on the substantive matter resumes. Further details are expected as proceedings unfold.
