Edo Schools to Reopen Monday After Security Review

The Edo State Government has announced that schools recently shut down due to security concerns will reopen on Monday, June 15, 2026.

In a circular issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Enodolomwanyi Otamere, the government confirmed that Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School, and Makeke Secondary School in Akoko Edo will resume academic activities following a comprehensive security review.

Governor Monday Okpebholo had earlier ordered the temporary closure of the schools after the Department of State Services raised an alert about possible bandit attacks.

According to the circular, enhanced security measures have now been deployed across the affected communities and schools to safeguard students, teachers, and staff.

“The government is satisfied that the necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure the safety and well-being of learners, teachers and other school personnel. The schools should be re-opened on Monday, June 15,” the statement read.

School heads, proprietors, and education authorities have been directed to prepare adequately for the safe return of students and maintain close collaboration with security agencies and community leaders.

The government reassured parents and guardians that it will continue monitoring developments to protect lives and property, urging them to ensure their children return promptly to continue their studies.

The closure had followed intelligence reports of a planned mass abduction of students, but officials now say conditions are safe enough for schools to resume.
