Dickson Leads Closed-Door Peace Talks to Resolve Kano NDC Crisis

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) says it is actively mediating to resolve internal disagreements between the Kwankwasiya movement and legacy party officials in Kano State, while emphasising that no official results from its primary elections have been released in any state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC disclosed that a closed-door meeting was held involving the national leadership of the Kwankwasiya movement, the party’s National Leader, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and top NDC officials.

“The closed-door meeting was aimed at resolving the issues between the Kwankwasiya movement and the legacy officials of NDC in Kano State,” the party said.

Senator Dickson and the NDC leadership are mediating the process to promote greater inclusion and participation by all party members.

The NDC reiterated its commitment to internal democracy and stated that it would not impose candidates in Kano or anywhere else in the country.

“The NDC leadership will not impose candidates in Kano State, and indeed across the nation as the party cherishes the virtues of internal democracy,” the statement added.

The party also urged members and the public to disregard any lists circulating online regarding the outcome of its primary elections.

“The NDC has not released any official results of its primary elections in any state. Hence, the public and party members are urged to disregard any such list in circulation,” it warned.

The peace talks come amid fresh tensions in the Kano State chapter of the NDC. Some party officials in the North-West zone had accused former Kano Governor and Kwankwasiya leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, of attempting to dominate the party structure and sideline other stakeholders.

These allegations were contained in a petition reportedly sent to the national leadership by the party’s North-West Vice Chairman, Mohammed Serina, and Kano State Chairman, Hussaini Mariga.

The latest meeting is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the NDC leadership to ease tensions, foster unity, and ensure a stable platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Kwankwasiya movement had earlier dismissed rumours suggesting that Kwankwaso was planning to exit the party.
