A coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs), youth groups, trade unions, community associations, social movements, and faith-based organisations on Friday took to the streets of Lagos to protest worsening insecurity and escalating economic hardship across Nigeria.
The demonstrators converged at the Ikeja Under Bridge, where they voiced strong concerns over the deteriorating living conditions of millions of Nigerians.
They called on the Federal Government to urgently address the twin challenges of insecurity and the rising cost of living.
Participants carried placards with various inscriptions, including “End all anti-people policies now,” “End hunger,” “Free all captives now,” “Decent minimum wage,” “No democracy without security,” “For a living wage and mass job creation,” and “Tinubu has failed Nigeria.”
According to the coalition, the protest was a mass action against policies they believe are negatively affecting ordinary citizens, compounded by persistent insecurity and inflation pressures on households and businesses.
The demonstrators urged governments at all levels to prioritise citizens’ welfare, improve security, and implement measures to ease economic hardship and enhance living standards.
The protest occurred on Democracy Day, reflecting growing public discontent over national security and economic conditions.
