Confusion in Plateau PDP as Turaki Faction Presents 2027 Guber Certificate to Sunday Biggs

The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been thrown into fresh crisis as the faction led by Tanimu Turaki presented a Certificate of Return to Sunday Garba Biggs as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The move, which occurred on Wednesday, came barely 24 hours after the rival faction aligned with former Rivers State Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, presented its own Certificate of Return to a different preferred governorship candidate on Tuesday.

Biggs received the certificate during a ceremony organised after a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP faction loyal to Turaki. The gathering brought together state chairmen, party elders, members of the Board of Trustees (BOT), other governorship candidates, and stakeholders from across the country.

Expressing satisfaction with the development, Biggs said the certificate formally assigns him the responsibility of leading the PDP’s governorship campaign in Plateau State. He added that the party has demonstrated confidence in his capacity to deliver purposeful leadership, promote good governance, peace, and sustainable development in the state.

Party stakeholders at the event also described Biggs as a visionary leader capable of uniting the people of Plateau and advancing the state’s developmental goals. However, political observers have warned that the PDP risks repeating the mistakes of the 2023 elections, when the party’s failure to adhere to electoral guidelines led to the Appeal Court nullifying the victories of its elected lawmakers in the state.

The parallel certificates and deepening factional crisis are already raising concerns about the party’s preparedness and unity ahead of the 2027 polls.
