Come Home, Clear Your Name —Laolu Akande to Alison-Madueke

Former presidential media aide Laolu Akande has called on former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to return to Nigeria following her acquittal by a UK court, saying she should face and resolve the corruption cases against her in the country.

Akande made the remarks on Friday during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief. While describing the UK court’s decision as “exciting news,” he stressed that it was not sufficient to resolve all issues surrounding the ex-minister.

“She should come home and get these matters sorted. She should go through the EFCC cases against her, for which quite a significant portion of her properties have been forfeited,” Akande said.

“I think the time is now ripe for her to come and defend herself in her own country, and let’s see where the pendulum goes,” he added.

Alison-Madueke has faced multiple corruption allegations and investigations in Nigeria and abroad since leaving office in 2015.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured several court-ordered forfeitures of assets linked to her, while Nigerian authorities have repeatedly sought her extradition.

The development comes shortly after reports that a UK court cleared Alison-Madueke of all charges in a long-running case.
