Former Chief of Army Staff Lt-Gen Tukur Buratai says the Nigerian military has the capacity to track bandits, the same way it locates ordinary citizens and social media influencers.
Speaking Monday on TVC, Buratai was responding to questions on the rescue of abducted Oyo schoolchildren and teachers. Gunmen kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oyo and beheaded one teacher.
“I don’t believe security agencies cannot locate bandits if they can locate ordinary citizens and social media influencers,” he said.
Buratai said he would not call it a capacity problem, but noted security agencies “may have their reasons.” He stressed there must be capacity building across all security agencies.
“We need more troops to be recruited, more operatives, more policemen need to be recruited, trained and retrained,” he added.
