Suspected bandits struck the Quarry area of Arab Road in Kubwa, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, late Saturday night, killing one resident and abducting another.
The attack occurred between 11 p.m. and midnight. According to community secretary Dairo, residents first heard gunshots near a house by the hill, where the assailants reportedly gained entry.
Local vigilantes engaged the attackers in a gun battle but were unable to stop them.“After the assailants entered the victim’s apartment, they shot him and took his younger brother away,” Dairo told Daily Post.
The injured victim later died in hospital on Sunday.Dairo explained that this was the third successful kidnapping in the community in recent years, noting that the attackers consistently use the hill as their entry point.
He recalled a similar incident in May last year, when another resident was abducted and later released after ransom payment.
He added that local security had repelled an attempted attack just weeks earlier, but the community continues to face persistent threats. Vigilantes and hunters have since formed a strong security network to protect residents.
The secretary appealed to government and security agencies to establish a police station or increase patrols in Kubwa to curb the activities of armed groups.
Efforts to reach FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh were unsuccessful at press time. This rewrite keeps the urgency and factual clarity while trimming repetition.
